Highland Culture

Fort William and Lochaber has some of the most interesting history in Scotland and you can get to most of it from Woodside within 1 hour or less by car.

The Jacobites started their Fight for Liberty at Glenfinnan in 1745; Inverlochy Castle Ruin in Fort William is almost 1,000 years old; Fort William is named after King William of Orange who garrisoned his Red Coats here to sort out the Highlanders; Ben Nevis was first scaled as a mountain route in the late 1800s.; Glen Nevis has an Iron Age vitrified fort site which also is a great walk with fantastic views of Ben Nevis

In town take a visit to the West Highland Museum where you will be fascinated for hours...

Today film makers come to Fort William and Lochaber for the scenery - Braveheart, Highlander, Local Hero, Harry Potter - just few to mention...
